Top 6 Sites for the Modern Pet Owner
By Alice Yoo (from My Modern Met) on November 14, 2011
Now more than ever, our pets have become like part of our family. They're who we turn to for unconditional love or to just brighten up a gloomy day. As a dedicated pet owner, you not only seek products that make sense for your dog or cat, you love finding cool items that speak to your design sensibility. Today, we've rounded up six excellent sites that do just that. So whether you're a dog person or a cat person, check out these blogs, online magazines or social networking sites that were designed for you, the modern pet owner. 1. Dog Milk

From Jaime Derringer, the creator of the popular site Design Milk, comes Dog Milk, a website dedicated to the modern dog. Combining the love she has for her own two dogs with her passion for finding new products, Derringer has created a great site that showcases products you won't necessarily find in your typical pet store. From chic clothes and delicious treats to beautiful beds and plush sofas, Dog Milk has it all. Don't have a pet yourself? Come here to find the perfect gift or to read The Scoop, articles that highlight a pet and its creative owner.
2. Moderncat

In love with your furry feline? If so, you must check out Moderncat, a blog dedicated to cat owners with modern style. Like Derringer, founder Kate Benjamin actually has pets of her own, in fact, she's the proud owner of seven cats. Benjamin hope to change the stereotype of the "crazy cat lady" by showing cat owners that they can still have a chic home. By seeking out the newest and most innovative products for living with cats, she hopes to make it easy for you to spoil your cat in style. While at this site, don't forget to check out their interviews and contests.
3. Modern Dog Magazine

Modern Dog Magazine is the perfect periodical for pet owners who want to keep up with the latest and greatest of what's new in the dog world. You'll not only be up-to-date on today's must-have accessory, you'll also learn training tips and read exclusive interviews featuring celebrities and their pets. Modern Dog Magazine's website has a little bit of everything including photos, giveaways, blogs and events. If you think your dog needs to have his "5 minutes of fame," you can even enter him into the Modern Dog Photo Contest where once a week, the dog with the most votes is featured as Dog of the Week and has a chance to appear in their magazine.
4. Pup Style

Think your dog deserves to live a life of luxury? Started in 2003 by New York husband and Wife team Dara Foster and Jon Spooner, Pup Style aims to set a higher standard for dog fashion and luxury. They're not talking overpriced designer duds, they're all about featuring products made with real value and workmanship. This site is perfect for dog owners who believe that their pet deserves a little pampering. It's also for those who enjoy being immersed in "pet culture." This site often features art and design products inspired by our furry friends.
5. Pawesome

Consider yourself animal obsessed? Don't be ashamed, check out Pawesome and you'll feel right at home. Launched in December 2009 by two best friends, Pawesome now has contributing writers who report on the intricacies of owning a pet. Unlike a lot of the other sites, Pawesome features the latest news on all sorts of different animals from dogs and cats to birds and tigers. They'll even round up the latest pet stories from around the web so you're always in the know. If it's pet related, chances are they'll cover it. And if cute cat videos are your thing, you'll be happy to know that you'll find many of the best ones here.
6. Dogster

Founded in 2004, Dogster is a very popular dog site that's known as the online resource for all things dog related. (They also have Catster for cat lovers.) It's a robust community where you can interact with other modern dog owners or where you can just learn more about your little companion through their countless articles. Their knowledgeable and trustworthy expert points-of-views will teach you everything from pet adoption to behavior and training. You can also make friends with their over 600K members to learn a thing or two from a person who's probably already experienced it themselves.
