cool_halloween_costumes.jpgWhether you plan to make a costume or order one online, it could take you a few weeks to put something good together. So unless you want to go as something lame like a sparkly vampire, you should start thinking about costume ideas now. Luckily there are tons of great costume ideas on the internet to inspire you. These are some of the best sites to check out to get costume ideas.

Costumzee.jpgCostumzee
If you're still torn between going homemade or store-bought, Costumzee is a great place to start looking. You'll find a pretty even mix of homemade costumes and costumes available for purchase. Costumzee also lists the 100 most popular costumes searches on their site each week. It's a great feature if you want to make sure no one else is going to show up in a similar costume. You can also browse costumes by tags to see stuff like every Charlie Sheen or Harry Potter costume posted on the site.

Instructables-Halloween-Costumes.jpg
Instructables
If you're definitely going the homemade route with your costume this year, then Instructables is a fantastic resource. Members post detailed costume tutorials ranging from complete costumes to make up techniques. They even have detailed instructions on how to make awesome accessories like a glowing Green lantern ring or realistic looking armor. The best part? Most of the costumes are surprisingly cheap to make.

Costume-Pop.jpg
Costume Pop
Costume Pop has got a something for everyone--whether you're looking for costume ideas for adults, kids or even pets. Or if you're not looking for something age or gender specific you can browse the huge selection of homemade costumes. This site also uses tags to organize costumes, letting you sort by topics such as animals, monsters, fairy tales, movies and more. And while no one does tutorials quite like Instructables, Costume Pop has a decent How-Tos section as well.

Coolest-Homemade-Costumes.jpg
Coolest Homemade Costumes
If you can forgive the fact that this site looks like it was coded in 1998, Coolest Homemade Costumes is worth visiting. The site features a massive amount of incredibly creative user-submitted costumes, which means the site can be a bit overwhelming to navigate. Your best bet is to hit the site map and browse the categories.

Disney-Family-Fun-Halloween.jpg
Disney Family Fun
Parents looking for last minute costume ideas for their kids should definitely swing by the Halloween section of Disney Family Fun. They list a lot of homemade costumes for kids and teens, complete with how-to instructions for each. Unlike some of the costumes sites that rely heavily on user-submitted content, they use professional photos that are crisp and clear. The creativity level isn't quite on par with some user-submitted sites, but there are still some really original ideas--like paper doll and washing machine costumes.

Martha-Stewwart-Halloween-Central.jpg

Martha Stewart also has a great Halloween section with great homemade costume ideas. This site also features really great professional photos and easy to follow tutorials. And don't worry if you can't sew--they've got a great list of no-sew costume ideas. In fact, many of the costumes can be made with stuff you could find around the house.

Kaboos-Kids-Halloween-Costumes.jpgKaboose
Many of the costumes featured on Kaboose are store-bought, so this is a good site to check out if you're not crafty enough for Martha. The site mainly showcases kids costumes, which are broken up into categories like superheroes, fairy tales, and movie & TV characters. They also have a small homemade section that's perfect for anyone looking for easy to make homemade costumes.

Costume-Works.jpg
Costume Works
Similar to Coolest Homemade Costumes, Costume Works is a little old-school when it comes to design and layout, but it's got a lot of great content. All of the costumes featured on Costume Works are user-submitted, and most of them are homemade. This site is a great place to check out some seriously dedicated costume makers who really get into the Halloween spirit.
