The 3 Best Gear Sites for Men

Art_of_Manliness_Gear_Guide.jpgOver the past five years or so, a niche of websites dedicated to helping men discover and buy cool stuff has sprouted up on the inter-tubes. These sites scour the web and the world at large on a continual basis to find and curate gear, gadgets, clothing, movies, and music that appeal to men. While many of these sites highlight the same products, they all have their unique angle and spin because of the different tastes of their respective editors.

Below I highlight three of the best men's gear sites on the web. Even if your bank account is running dry these days, it's just fun to see what kind of unique and interesting products exist out there. And with the holidays coming up in a few short months, you might consider perusing them to get gift ideas for the men in your life. Or if you're a man, to get ideas for your own wish list.

Uncrate

uncrate.jpgUncrate is the granddaddy of the men's gear/buyer's guide niche. Since 2005, Uncrate has been digging up and curating the best men's products for their over 1 million monthly users. The editors have covered over 8,000 products ranging from tools and gadgets to clothing and movies. Uncrate editors update their site multiple times a day and they're often the first to highlight newly released products.

Uncrate keeps a good mix of luxury items and products the average Joe can afford. Though sometimes they'll highlight astronomically priced products that I'm sure none of their readers will ever be able to buy and are purely aspirational (example: a $135 million yacht).

Readers can create a Stuff page that allows them to save favorite products for later perusing or to share with friends and family for holiday and birthday gift ideas.

In addition to their daily product updates, Uncrate has an Answers section where Uncrate readers can ask and answer man-specific questions.

Gear Patrol

gp.jpgWhile most men's gear sites just feature short descriptions about the products they highlight, the gents at Gear Patrol go the extra mile by offering readers a plethora of ways to learn about the items they feature.

One thing I like about Gear Patrol is that the editors there actually get their hands on most of the products they cover to give readers an in-depth review. For example, they have a series of well-done video reviews of several cars on their YouTube page.

In addition to curating cool products for men to buy, the writers and editors at GP provide some longer editorial content that takes us behind the scenes of some of your favorite brands and companies. Just last week, GP took readers on a factory tour of Red Wing Shoes in Red Wing, MN, and a few months ago they did an interview with Dave Munson, founder and owner of Saddleback Leather Bags.

If you're an iPad user, be sure to download their kickbutt iPad app. It's like reading a magazine full of cool stuff.

Cool Material

coolmaterial.jpgWhat I like most about Cool Material
is that most of the products they highlight are within the price range of the average guy. The products they curate are really interesting and fun and often targeted towards a younger man. Every time I visit Cool Material I discover some new product that I'd love to have or am simply tickled to have come across. If you're looking for a fun and unique gift idea for a man, make sure to swing by Cool Material.

What's your go-to site to check out the latest gear for men?
