By Lori Cunningham (from Clever Girls Collective) on June 24, 2011
Toddlers' minds are like sponges - they absorb everything. The iPad is an ideal platform for all sorts of learning. But with so many apps available, how do you choose? The best iPad apps for toddlers are those that can teach and engage kids. Toddlers love color, music, interaction, and repetition. These 10 iPad apps are sure to keep your toddler's attention and keep him coming back for more!

A classic educational game with the look and clacking sounds of real wood pieces. Toddlers move wood pieces with pictures of shapes, colors, and items to match corresponding items on a wooden board. Logic features five games of colors, numbers, letters, pictures, and figures. Logic Lite is also available for FREE, offering two games.

Voted the best iPad kids app of the year at iLounge, Interactive Alphabet guides toddlers through the alphabet, creating lots of interactive fun for each letter. The D card makes the dinosaur roar, the X card allows kids to play the xylophone. Phonic sounds are stressed.

Disney's Toy Story is a must have for your iPad. It's a great story book, true to the movie, and includes movie clips, games, coloring, and two sing-a-long tunes. Even better, you can record your voice to read each page - perfect for when you are out of town but still want to read a bedtime story to your children.
A simple app, but like it's physical world predecessor, irresistible! Kidscan even play several notes at once, allowing kids to play chords or just create musical mayhem! In addition, iXlyophone can play up to 75 recognizable kids songs to listen to or play along with. A free version, supported by ads, is also available.
I Hear Ewe FREE 3 Stars A very simplistic app but very entertaining for babies and toddlers. I Hear Ewe shows cartoon pictures of 24 animals and 12 vehicles. When touched, the animal or vehicle makes a realistic sound. A great way for kids to learn animals/vehiclesand their sounds.
Don't let the 2 1/2 Stars deter you. What a fun and wacky way to play and learn about animals! Wacky Safari allows kids to mix and match portions of the animal bodies to make up funny combinations, press animal buttons on a wacky phone to hear what they say, learn funny jokes about animals, and play fun sounds in Paw Jam. A free version with ads is available.
There are a number of apps of talking animals and babies available, for free and for a fee. I tried many of them and prefer Talking Gina the best for toddlers...and kids for that matter. Gina loves to repeat the words and noises she hears in her cute high pitched voice. Kids will go crazy with their new "all ears" friend. Recommended only for the talking aspect of the app.
Wheels on the Bus $1.99 4 Stars The Wheels on the Bus is an entertaining app for toddlers that allows kids to interact with the characters while the fun familiar tune, "Wheels on the Bus" plays and narrates the story. This app has won several awards including 2010 Parent's Choice Gold Award and the children's' Technology Review Editor's Choice Award for Excellence in Design.
PBS Kids FREE 3 StarsPBS Kids has put together a large collection of video clips (over 1,000) on cartoons toddlers love like Cat in the Hat, Arthur, Elmo, Dinosaur Train, Super Why, The Electric Company, Martha Speaks, and many more. Under each character, you can play a number of different video clips ranging from ...seconds to minutes. Note: strong WiFi or cellular signal is needed to play videos.

For older toddlers approaching their preschool years, Preschool Adventure combines fun graphics, letters relating to animals, an animal puzzle, 3 letter rhyming words, and more. The graphics are colorful, engaging, and fun.
