MMMDesignPOV.jpgApple founder Steve Jobs once said, "Design is the fundamental soul of a human-made creation that ends up expressing itself in successive outer layers of the product or service." More than just relegated to professionals, modern design is now something most individuals seek out and appreciate as part of their daily lives. They look to it for simple and elegant solutions, to find meaningful order and to feel connected to places or spaces. Today, we've put together six websites that are at the forefront of modern design. They're the ones who not only shape tomorrow's future, they're the ones showing us who's designing it.

1. Dezeen

In 2006, Dezeen launched and it quickly became the online magazine both designers and design enthusiasts look to as a modern design authority. In 2008, Time Magazine listed Dezeen as one of their ten most important design websites in the world. With a carefully edited selection of stories, Dezeen often breaks architecture, design and interior-related news before anyone else. Tip: Click on Dezeenjobs to find an updated list of available jobs in the design or architecture field. You can also post a job by paying a small fee.

2. The Cool Hunter

The Cool Hunter is more than just a beautifully design site, it's a leading authority on all things creative. Started in 2004 by Bill Tikos, The Cool Hunter is for the "creative influencers who stay in the know and ahead of the curve." Don't look to The Cool Hunter to spot trends, look to them to find the ideas and thought leaders of tomorrow. Tip: Follow The Cool Hunter on Facebook for some daily inspiration.

3. Yatzer

With interviews and news stories, Yatzer not only gives you fresh and up-to-date information on modern design, they provide you with a deeper experience. Founded by Greek interior designer, Costas Voyatzis in 2007, Yatzer has received worldwide attention in just a few short years. In April 2010, it was named one of the best design sites internationally by Financial Times. Yatzer got a makeover in September 2010 and only continues to get better. Tip: Check out their Books section to find a well-curated list of design-related books.

4. We Heart

If you visit We Heart, you'll know that this blog always deliver some fresh and original content. It's their desire to bring their readers "the most vital new trends, hottest launches and most desirable new products." Look to this site if you're a fan of design in retail stores and hotels, We Heart is always giving you a sneak peek into incredible spaces. Tip: If you're looking for more design blogs to add to your daily reads, check out We Heart's Favorite Sites section in the right column.

5. Yanko Design

Founded in 2002, Yanko Design is your guide to all things cutting-edge. They'll introduce you to a whole host of international designers, ones that create concepts that are leading the way to a more modern future. Consistently ranked as one of the top 100 most read blogs on the internet according to Technorati, Yanko Design prides itself on being at the forefront of modern international design news. Tip: In each of their blog posts, Yanko lists the designers behind the concepts. Click on those links to be taken to their websites.

6. Moco Loco

Started in 2003, Moco Loco is a web magazine for the modern design enthusiast. Edited and published by Harry Wakefield of Montreal, you'll always feel like you're seeing the latest and greatest products as MocoLoco often shows concepts that haven't yet hit the showroom floor. Come here if you're a fan of all things modern including furniture, lighting, and architecture. Tip: You can switch layouts on Moco Loco's webpage if you're used to vertical scrolling.
