Top 10 Tech Toys for Toddlers
By Christina Refford (from Cool Mom Tech) on December 1, 2010
Our kids have been fascinated with technology ever since they were old
enough to hit "Play" on the DVD player. Sure, they're also happy playing
with a giant cardboard box, but today's toddlers have so many options
to incorporate technology into their play that it's a natural for them.
The key to happy gift giving is to find those items that will hold a toddler's interest long after the holiday decorations have been packed away. And, don't worry, we've made sure these aren't the kind of toys that make you sneak the batteries out of them at night so that you don't have to hear them anymore.
Take a look at ten of our favorite tech toys and games for toddlers. We hope they help you find the perfect gift for your toddler this holiday.
1. LeapFrog My Own Leaptop
This lightweight, toddler-friendly laptop says your child's name and recites personalized email messages. Super cute! Includes songs, letter identification and animal games, and even blog entries read by the LeapFrog mascot Scout.
$24.99
2. uDraw Tablet
The uDraw tablet has a little something for everyone in the family, though toddlers will love the chance to color their own pictures and play around on the tablet just like the bigger kids. What a great way to get them doing something creative when you don't feel like dragging out the art supplies again.
$69.99
3. Nickelodeon Fit
Nicklodeon favorites like Dora, Diego and Kai-lan are now getting kids moving with Nickelodeon Fit for Wii. For use with a balance board or without, Nickelodeon Fit is a great game to have on hand for those long winter months. The relay race may even pull you into the action.

4. SweetPea3 MP3 Player
Take your toddler's tunes wherever you go with SweetPea3's clever little MP3 Player which can also download Audible story files. It's made of food-grade-safe silicon for those who still put everything in their mouth, plus it's rugged enough for busy toddlers to tote around. When they get tired, it can clip to your stroller to keep the music going, even when your toddlers has run out of batteries.
$59.95
5. MobiGo Touch Learning System
The Mobigo Touch Learning System knows that little fingers may have a hard time hitting the right buttons, so it uses a very cool touch-screen system for toddlers to play games and learn. Love the slide-out Querty keyboard which is a great way to introduce kids to a "real" keyboard.
$59.99
6. Gyrowheel
A new two-wheel bike under the Christmas tree may not sound very high tech but take a look at that front wheel and you've got the latest and greatest way to get rid of those training wheels. The Gyrowheel uses a spinning inner wheel to stabilize the bike and make it easier for a toddler to ride. And as they gain confidence riding, the assistance can be dialed back until the Gyrowheel becomes just like a regular, super-cool-looking wheel.
$115
7. V.Reader
Us grownups have our Kindle or Nook, now our toddlers can have their own V.Reader Animated Ebook System. Watch and listen to an animated story and play learning games with this easy-to-use touch scream. Additional stories are also available for download or purchase which keeps this toy fresh. Though toddlers don't seem to mind hearing their favorite story again and again and again.
$59.99
8. Just Dance Kids
Instant dance party for toddlers on up, Just Dance Kids is great for those of us who want a fun active game that has the littlest playing with older kids too. With kid-friendly lyrics and including songs by Yo Gabba Gabba and The Wiggles, this Wii game is like Studio 54 meets Romper Room.

9. OK to Wake Owl with Nightlight

OK to Wake ups the cuteness factor with their new OK to Wake Owl with Nightlight. This Owl is a real nighttime buddy who plays lullabies at bedtime and glow green when it's time to get up for the day. But, the real magic is when a child wakes up too early: Then, the OK to Wake Owl will glow softly and soothe the child with gentle words and more lullabies. Bliss.
$24.95
10. Alphie
Alphie, that beloved robot toy of the 80's, is back and even cuter than ever. Slide one of the cards into his belly to play games and learn. We love Alphie's personality and not-annoying robot voice. Additional card packs can be purchased which help keep the games fresh though we think toddlers will be charmed regardless.
