Track Fantasy Football Teams With Mobile Apps
By Sarah Braesch (from Clever Girls Collective) on September 30, 2010
This weekend I will be out of town for a three day conference. OH NO! What about my fantasy football teams?Yes, I said teams. I have seven. I am sort of a fantasy football junkie. Don't judge, we all have our vices. The real question here is how can I effectively manage all of my teams remotely? Fortunately, I have many answers to this question.
I have an iPhone. If you don't have an iPhone, don't worry. Several of these programs (or very similar ones) are available for other smart phones, but for the sake of this article I will just show you how I manage my teams.
First, I made a page of my sports apps.
This just helps me stay organized. My leagues are not all hosted on the same website, so some of these are better than others.
I have four teams on Yahoo! So I use this app the most. I love this application because it is very similar to the website, and since I've been playing fantasy sports on Yahoo! since 2003 it is very easy for me to use.
See? All four of my teams are right at my finger tips.
Let's say, for example that one of my wide receivers gets arrested on Thursday night. (It could happen, I drafted a lot of Bengals.) If I am without access to my computer this weekend it is no problem. I can change my lineup from this app.
Even better - I can add and drop players. Right from my phone!
Best of all, this app is free.
You've got to love free.
Not this next one I spent money on. The ESPN Fantasy Football app cost me $ 4.99.
It is pretty nice. You can do anything form here, you can add/drop, bench players or start players. You can claim people off of waivers. This offers push notifications for injuries. You can even trash talk your league from the line at the grocery store.
I spend an exorbitant amount of time in line at the grocery store. I like to have the option to talk trash there if need be.
You can also get fantasy news, tweets, analysis and videos on this app.
I guess that is why it costs almost five bucks.
Besides just being given the option to manage your fantasy football teams remotely, most apps also offer real time scores. I love that. It is great for those weekends when you have a t-ball game and then a baby shower.
I don't know how people played fantasy football before iPhones. Oh wait, yes I do. I was one of them. Trust me, this way is far superior.
