iPhone 4 Apps To Die For
By Shira Levine (from Business Insider) on August 23, 2010
To be the owner of an iPhone is to be part of a uniting yet exclusive club of slick gadgetry. Like the VW Beetle of the late 90s, iPhone users connect to the product with a cult-like devotion. Better than the Beetle's flower vase, is the almighty Apple store with its huge collection of useful, innovative and quirky apps. And the release of the iPhone 4 in June means even more new apps to explore. Here are some of our favorite new apps for the iPhone 4: Bump
Who needs the burden of carrying around business cards or even worse, pen and paper when you can just use the Bump app? Give and get contact information, photos, calendar events all by bumping your phone against another iPhone and voila! the information is transferred. Bumping also syncs you up as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn friends, followers and contacts.
Instapaper
Reading the news is a great way to stay informed and kill time. Cell phone service and the art of getting enough reception bars is always a challenge. Users can relax and read save newspaper, magazine and blog pages for offline reading later.
TextPlus
App-to-App messaging and regular texting for free. App can do community and group chats as well.
Pandora
Multi-tasking music-loving Pandora fans rejoiced at the news that this app finally can do what it should have always been able to do - run in the background so iPhone 4 users can rock on to their music all while doing other useful things on their phone.
Dropbox
All those files you have stored in your Dropbox account can now be accessed for syncing and sharing via your iPhone.
Fring
Make voice and video calls for free and conduct live IM conversations from your iPhone.
Glamour Ask a Stylist
Sometimes you just can't trust your own instincts. Enter Glamour's Ask a Stylist. Ask the app fashion questions and get a quick response from a collection of style experts before leaving the house. Take a picture and ask your question and the stylists will respond within minutes.
Flashlight
We've all used the glow of our cell phone screens to see in the dark but this app takes it a step further. Don't get lost in the dark without it.
Find My iPhone
Losing your cell phone bites the big one and breaks the bank to recover. Find My iPhone lets you remotely track your iPhone if you lose it or if you think it might be stolen. And if things don't look good on the iPhone recovery side, you can remotely wipe the phone to protect your personal information.
Car Locator and Taxi Magic
These speak for themselves. Typically forget where you parked your car? Car Locator tags your location when you pull in and guides you back to it when you're heading back. City folk certainly appreciate the ability hail a cab from their iPhone with Taxi Magic.
And for those in the need....There's Shotgun Pro
The law abiding actress Rose Mcgowan shared her reasoning for arming herself...err downloading the calming app. "Pretending my iPhone is a sawed off shotgun?" says McGowan. "In a word, gratifying."
