for 10 Best iPhone AppsMovie Lovers
By Christina Warren (from Mashable) on May 7, 2010
One of the greatest things about the iPhone is the App Store. The slogan, "there's an app for that" exists for a reason -- there is an app for almost everything. Sometimes the hardest part is actually finding the best applications in a certain category.Movie fans have lots of options for iPhone apps, ranging from games, utilities for finding movie times, to seeing what movies your friends recommend.
Here are ten of my favorite iPhone apps for movie lovers.

1. 6DOH (Free)
Created in partnership with the creators of "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," 6DOH, or Six Degrees of Hollywood, is an incredibly fun, surprisingly difficult movie trivia game. Users have to link actors together through their shared roles in a predetermined number of steps. So if you have to connect Anne Hathaway to George Clooney, you could do: Anne Hathaway was in "Valentine's Day" with Julia Roberts, Julia Roberts was in "Ocean's Eleven" with George Clooney. That's only two steps. The game is free but you can buy extra categories or questions within the game for more fun.

2. iPhlix ($2.99)
There are many different programs in the App Store to help you manage or add titles to your Netflix queue, and I think I've tried almost every one. My far and away favorite is the iPhlix Netflix Queue Manager. The app makes it easy to sign in and authorize your Netflix account (or accounts, if you have more than one), add movies to your shipping or "Watch Instantly" queues, rate movies, see your recommendations, change your queue order, and delete items from your list. You can also search for films in the Netflix database, browse by category and see what was added this week and what titles are currently most popular. If you are a Netflix addict, this is definitely the app for you.

3 & 4. Movies Now and Fandango (Both Free)
Movies Now and Fandango are two great apps for buying movie tickets directly from your phone. Both will let you search local theaters and select tickets online, but Fandango usually powers Regal Cinemas theaters, while Movies Now uses MovieTickets.com's database. Both apps are a great way to find show times and buy tickets quickly. If you are a MovieTickets.com customer, you can use your MovieWatcher card with Movies Now to earn points and save money.

5. Movies by Flixster (Free)
The Movies app brings the Flixster.com experience to your phone. Movies lets you view upcoming films, read your friends' reviews and recommendations, check out show times and trailers, and more. I love this app because it integrates with Facebook Connect, meaning you are instantly connected to your other Facebook friends who use Flixster. You can share comments and recommendations with ease.
6. IMDb (Free)
Quick, who was the director of "Hand that Rocks the Cradle?" If Curtis Hanson didn't appear at the tip of your lips, you'll want to download the free IMDb app for the iPhone. IMDb brings the website's database to your pocket and includes trivia, movie news and more.
7. TCM ($2.99)
The official Turner Classic Movies app is a great one for classic movie buffs. Not only does it have access to a detailed schedule of every movie coming to the TCM channel, but you also get access to trivia, classic movie trailers, detailed film essays, film news, and photos of classic film memorabilia.
8. Scene It? Movies ($0.99)
I love the Scene It? series of DVD board games. The iPhone version is just as fun and includes both single-play and pass-and-play modes. The app features trivia questions based on movie clips and is a great way to pass time or expand your movie knowledge.
9. Silence of the Lambs Soundboard ($0.99)
MGM Studios actually has an entire series of soundboard applications - that is, apps that contain movie clips and quotes that can be played on demand. My personal favorite is the one for the 1991 Oscar winner, "The Silence of the Lambs," but "Rocky," "Roadhouse," "Fargo" and "Hot Tub Time Machine" are all available as well.
10. Sony Pictures (Free)
Sony Pictures has released a free application that contains all the latest trailers, movie show times and movie-related iTunes apps in one place. You can watch trailers in HD, find out what movies and TV shows are available to buy in iTunes, get access to games based on Sony Pictures movies, and also see when an upcoming film is playing near you. Sony did a great job with the interface, and the app also integrates with Facebook and Twitter.
