Digital Recipe Box
By Angie Dudley (from Bakerella) on November 20, 2009
If you're anything like me when it comes to recipes, then you have them scribbled down on paper in all shapes and sizes. I have them on note pads, printouts, my grandmother's handwritten recipe cards... they are everywhere. I haven't found an ideal way to manage them all. I like order, so I tried keeping them in binders filled with clear sleeves to protect them, but those just seem to overflow, too. I know you know what I mean. Please, if you have a system that works for you, do tell.
But, if you don't, here's something I recently bought ... and I think it might just be a keeper. A recipe keeper, that is.
This is called The Demy and it's pretty awesome.
It
sits on your counter in one of two positions for easy viewing. You can
navigate through your recipes quickly (up to 2500 of them) with the
touchscreen menu located at the bottom. The view on the right is of a
recipe description. Click on the second tab and you'll see your full
recipe. FYI ... I only have one of these, but through the magic of
Photoshop, I've shown both positions here so you can see it
side-by-side. I think I might be in love. Well... I'm definitely
infatuated.
All you have to do to get started, is add your recipes to keyingredient.com. If you have photos, you can add them, too. Then you can sync your online recipe account to the Demy. That's pretty much it. Easy.
In addition to keeping your recipes accessible in one convenient place, it also has three different timers. Just touch and go.
The Demy ($299) also comes with these time-saving features:
And, because you enter your recipes free online through keyingredient.com, you can also:
Now, if I can just get someone to enter all my recipes, I think I'll be set.
And if not, then maybe I'll just use it as a paperweight until then... kidding... kinda.

- A list of substitutions for ingredients. (I'm liking that.)
- It
comes pre-filled with shared recipes from the online community at Key
Ingredient. You can search, organize and group recipes together keeping
all your favorites handy right at your fingertips.
And, because you enter your recipes free online through keyingredient.com, you can also:
- print your own cook books from the website and...
- make customized grocery lists right from your recipes on the site, too. Pretty cool.
