Everyday Solar Powered Gadgets

Everyday Solar Powered GadgetsTo me, solar powered technology always seemed like a complicated science.  But in recent years, I’ve come to realize that harnessing solar power is not at all difficult, and can actually be applied to a lot of areas in my everyday life. There are so many practical, and some just-for-fun applications for solar power, it blows my mind that we haven’t yet begun to power entire cities and nations with the technology.  Baby steps, I know. So with this idea in mind, I decided to round up some great and simple solar powered gadgets that come in handy every day.  Now I just have to be patient as I wait for the fully solar powered car to hit the market.

If you could pick one household item to be solar powered, which would it be?  Share in the comments below.

backpack, $149
charger, $35.99
sun jar, $19.95
night lights, $48
watch, $64

This solar powered charger is very cool! Just curious though, what does the solar powerd backpack do? Does is charge something inside the backpack?

      Hi Sunbear,

Voltaic Systems said, “All of our bags have a usb battery inside the bag, which holds the charge from the solar panels. You charge your devices from the battery.”

I loved learning last week that Tokelau (near New Zealand) is the first country in the world to go totally solar.

I made sun jars for a few people as christmas presents and they were huge hits. My current obsession is using solar for my home brewing setup. Fresnel lenses are awesome things!
