5. Take Long Exposures of Sparklers
Doesn’t this look like something out of a fairy tale? Forget fancy Photoshop, this incredible shot was created by taking a long exposure of sparklers! Belle Rempert of Lamb + Lark is behind this romantic photo that involves the couple being very still as a person runs around them with a sparkler. Other romantic sparkler ideas include spelling out the word Love or a couple creating two halves of a heart.
6. Bring Out Your Pet’s Personality
Forget taking the same ‘ol photo of our dog or cat. Instead, be inspired by Ben Torode’s super sweet photos of his little cat Daisy. Torode uses a variety of tried and true techniques to get his shots like using very large aperture lenses and having a remote control shutter release on hand so that he can interact with his cat. As he says, “you need to play to the kitten’s own instincts to provide the motivation for it to go somewhere or act in a certain way that feels natural to the cat.” (See also Theron Humphrey’s stellar series, Maddie the Coonhound.)
7. Recreate a Childhood Photo
Over the years, how much have you and your family physically changed? Now, you can see the actual transforation through pictures like in Irina Werning’s series Back to the Future. Interested in finding out how people would feel and look if they were to reenact their old portraits, Werning blasted people back to their past, photographing her subjects in the exact same place and dressing them up in very similar clothes. What makes the photos really compelling? When the subjects strike the exact same pose.
8. Show How You and Your Pet Have Grown Up Together
While we’re on the subject of recreating old photos, why not get your pets involved to show how you’ve grown up together? What better way is there to really appreciate the passage of time than with side by side photos like this? We can all learn a lesson or two from these folks who’ve cared for and raised their pet like a loving member of their family. I’m sure they’d agree, there’s nothing quite like the unconditional love of pets.
