Art is meant to be shared with the world and what better way to get your work seen than by displaying your portfolio online? One great site for art, whether you’re looking to showcase or simply browse, is deviantART. The site provides an online community for all forms of visual art creators and enthusiasts. We’ve been blown away by incredible painters, illustrators, photographers, and digital artists on this site and present to you some of the most inspiring artists that are active on deviantART today.
Italian artist Silvia Pelissero, better known as agnes-cecile, uses a mixed media method to produce her stunning watercolor portraits. By incorporating sharp, defining pen strokes with colorful splashes of paint, each piece blurs the lines between figurative and abstract works of art. The artist’s paintings exude their own liveliness with color and movement, as evidenced by the stained remains of multihued watercolors that have trickled down and splattered on the canvas.
2. Samuel Silva
Samuel Silva is a Portugal-based lawyer whose hobbies include drawing hyperrealistic portraits with ordinary Bic ballpoint pens. The self-taught illustrator has equipped himself with 8 different colored pens, in addition to a standard black pen, to complete each of his unbelievably life-like drawings. He uses a crosshatching method to emulate all of the colors in between. Silva is currently in the process of creating a tutorial, to be released on deviantART, on how he creates each striking image, as per the request of thousands of curious and admiring fans.
Fredo is a Chilean artist who uses his skilled hand to draw some mind-bending, three-dimensional illustrations. He produces several of his drawings across a sketchbook folded at a 90° angle. The perpendicularly placed drawing pads add to the illusionary effect that make it seem as though his subjects are popping out of the page. Additionally, the gifted illustrator often incorporates real-life objects atop the pages, as though his drawings have truly come to life and are interacting with the real world.
4. Paul Lung
If you were amazed by Samuel Silva’s pen drawings, you’re bound to be equally blown away by the photorealistic pencil drawings of Paul Lung. The Hong Kong-based artist illustrates some of the most astoundingly true to life renditions of people, but perhaps even more impressive and engaging are his intricately detailed portraits of cats. The monochromatic pencil drawings capture every fluffy piece of fur, wispy whisker, and twinkling cat eye.
5. Ben Heine
Ben Heine is a Belgian artist who complements his own photography with his creative brand of illustrations. In his well-received series titled Pencil Vs Camera, the multifaceted artist holds up his cleverly imaginative sketches drawn on torn sheets of paper, whose frame aligns perfectly with the underlying photograph. More than simply recreating the exact image as a monochromatic pencil drawing, Heine adds inventive story lines to each frame.
6. Norvz Austria
Norvz Austria, aka xetobyte, is a self-taught digital artist based in the Philippines. The expert photo manipulator takes samples from other people’s photographic works and mixes and matches them to create an entirely new image. The artist’s detailed process results in highly surreal, conceptual photography that reflect the best elements from several photographs, all of which he credits and links back to in the description box of each of his works on deviantART.
