Ultrabooks™: The Superheroes of Notebook PCs

Do you keep hearing about something called an Ultrabook™, but somehow you missed the memo that explained exactly what one is? Well, let me fill in that blank for you (Warning: Secret Identity Spoiler Alert).

Ultrabooks, you see, are the superheroes of the notebook PC world.

That’s right: superheroes. Think Batman, Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain America or Black Widow. These are not your normal nerd-on-the-street Clark Kent or Peter Parker notebooks. They have special powers. They spring instantly into action when duty calls. They keep going and going, longer and farther than the Energizer Bunny. They keep innocent citizens and their personal information safe and secure, and best of all, they look absolutely fabulous while doing all of the above.

Ultrabooks are actually a new category of computing devices that blend the performance and capabilities of today’s most powerful notebook PCs with the instant responsiveness, compact size, long battery life and featherweight portability of a tablet. The concept was introduced by Intel last year as a way to accelerate new user experiences, and PC manufacturers worldwide have responded with an astonishing array of beautiful new systems. There are 22 Ultrabook PCs available today, with 110 more confirmed in the pipeline. All are powered by 2nd or 3rd generation Intel® CoreTM processors and derive their unique features and capabilities from Intel silicon and technologies.

So what exactly makes these machines so exceptional?

First: An Ultrabook looks really good in uniform.
With the exception of the Hulk, nothing says superhero like a ripped physique and a form-fitting costume that shrink-wraps the physical assets for maximum visual impact. A caped crusader has to look the part, and every Ultrabook does. Despite their muscular capabilities, these machines are disarmingly sleek. None measures more than 0.80 inch at their thickest point, and many taper to a near knife edge. They weigh little more than a tablet, but deliver full-sized screens and keyboards. Potent performance has never been so palpably portable.

Second: All Ultrabooks are extraordinarily responsive.
When duty calls, they leap from deep sleep to full speed ahead in just seconds, courtesy of Intel® Rapid Start Technology1 and flash-based SSD storage. They launch your favorite games and programs 2-3 times faster thanks to Intel® Smart Response Technology2. And with Intel® Smart Connect Technology3, an Ultrabook in sleep mode can automatically awake to synchronize your email and social networking aps, so youíre always up to date and ready to go.

Third: An Ultrabook performs incredible acts of endurance.
Five hour battery life is the minimum for membership, but most Ultrabook PCs will run eight hours or more on a charge.

Fourth: An Ultrabook protects your data from theft and your identity.
Intel® Anti-Theft Technology4 is a hardware-enabled security service that can lock and disable a stolen Ultrabook anywhere in the world, and fully reactivate it when returned, without harm to data or digital content. Intel® Identity Protection Technology5 helps protect your identity and assets online for more secure shopping, banking or gaming.

Not everyone can have a superhero on speed dial like Jimmy Olsen or Robin. But with an Intel-inspired Ultrabook in our backpack or briefcase, every one of us can now have superpowers at our fingertips.
