App Mashup: Spotify + Songkick for Tracking Live Music
When you have Spotify up and running, you can suck in your iTunes music, set up playlists, subscribe to music your friends recommend, and so forth. Once you’ve messed around for a few days, it’s time to download Songkick for free.

Songkick automatically tracks local tour dates for your favorite artists. In addition to working with Spotify, it will also interface with iTunes, Last.fm, or Facebook. It accesses information on the artists you like, and then you select the cities you want to track. This is a bonus if you travel a lot, because you can indicate multiple towns, so you know if your favorite band is playing in NYC when you’re in for a business trip. Boo-yah.

Here’s a screencap of the upcoming concerts Songkick recommends for me. Now, instead of putting aside time to do calendar checks on my local venues, I can just click the SongkickConcerts link in my Spotify interface whenever I’m listening to music. Amazing, right? I find it to be the best. It saves me hours of research and weeks of disappointment, but does suck up most of my spare income in tickets for superior live music.
This works great for me, but what do you think? How do you keep track of the shows you don’t want to miss? Leave us your advice in comments.
